Hybrid Putter review by GRG

Thomas AT-705 Hybrid Putter Review

We caught wind of a new putter out there that was supposedly out performing the other putters on the market, so we got one for ourselves to see if the rumors were true.

Design – The AT-705 Hybrid putter was a smart move by its manufacturer Thomas Golf. The large rounded wood-like sole lets the putter slide over, and even through grass, with ease. We were surprised how effortlessly and accurately we were able to place putts when shooting from just off the green. It was like the long grass wasn’t even there. While on the green, we tried to get the putter to snag on either the stroke or back-stroke, but couldn’t.We consider the Hybrid sole to be the best design feature. It also has weight options, a machined face, and urethane insert.

Accuracy – The indicator on the top of the putter was simple, but still very effective. The hollow Hybrid-style head seemed to help when shots were hit off-center.The biggest contributor to accuracy was an unexpected one. Not until we used the AT-705 did we realize how often a regular putter is negatively effected by the grass. Golfers have become desensitized as to how often the green catches and disrupts the putting stroke. It can disrupt the pace of the stroke, or turn the head before impact. The AT-705 was a refreshing relief from these unnerving culprits of missed shots.

Feel – The larger hollow head gave the putter a stable feeling, and detailed audio feedback at impact. The urethane insert delivered the same touch we’ve become accustomed to from today’s top putter manufacturers.

Appearance – We give the AT-705 Hybrid Putter high marks in this department. It has soft un-intimidating lines and a two-toned mix of brushed steel and very durable metallic-fleck enamel with clear-coat. Another nice thing we found, is the AT-705 Hybrid Putter follows the same look and size as Thomas Golf’s AT-705 Hybrid Irons. So if you do own both, you’ll have a uniform set.We ordered our putter with a Men’s graphite shaft and standard sized grip. The shaft was black with an attractive gold logo. The grip had a nice feel and a very classy emblem in the end-cap.

Conclusion – So, were the AT-705 putter rumors true? Our verdict is yes.The snag-less sole, hollow head, stability, feedback, and appearance all contribute to making it an outstanding performer. Some golfers today are looking for putters with exaggerated size and multiple alignment indicators. If this is your preference, the AT-705 is not for you. This putter is more of a practical and effective design without eccentric structures or colors. The process of ordering online directly from the manufacturer was very easy, and the turn around time was surprisingly fast. For a quality putter with great customer service,it would be hard to find a better choice. Thomas Golf AT708 Square Hybrid Putter review

I wasn't sure what to expect when trying out Thomas Golf's AT708 Hybrid Putter for the first time.  Shaped like a traditional hybrid, I just couldn't believe I was looking at a putter.  But once I putted a few balls with it, I found it to be quite a novel idea and based on my initial experiments, very effective.  The specific trait that drew me in to the design was how easily I found the head to sit squarely.  The AT708 still has the gold line to aid in alignment but I found myself not needing it and instead using the square head as my guide.

The AT708 has a urethane face insert providing a soft feel which is ideal for players playing on faster greens but I'm sure the putter would be just as effective on slower surfaces.  The sole of the club is curved which helps if you have the tendency to occasionally drag the putter head back on the back swing.  This putter is also very effective when you are just off the green or perhaps against the collar of some higher grass.  The curvature on the sole of the club and the increased mass helps ensure the putter is able to pass through thicker grass without much deceleration resulting in more consistent and solid contact.

The AT708 putter is available in right handed models in any length including mid length belly and long putters.  There are also two choices in regards to the putter head's weight: 322 grams or the slightly heavier 338 gram model.  I preferred the heavier model because it gave me a better feel for the head and made my stroke feel more in control.

Overall, I am very pleasantly surprised with the performance and aesthetics of Thomas Golf's AT708 Square Hybrid putter.  It exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend it to any golfer looking to improve their putting.
