Thomas Golf AT 12 Putter Review GRG

Tester 1:

In putting, you may have heard of the two schools of thought regarding the stroke: do you prefer to swing the putter straight back and through along the target line or do you like to swing the putter along an arc like a door opening and closing.  Neither method is necessarily more correct than the other but if you tend to find more success with one method then choosing the right putter can help complement your preference.  People that like to swing along an arc tend to prefer putters with the shaft inserted at the heel while those that like to swing the putter along the target line tend to prefer more center shafted models.  The AT12 putter is right in between being center and heel shafted but may tend to be more helpful to those that like to swing along an arc or perhaps those undecided on their preference.

I found the most notable feature of the putter to be it's heavy head.  Weighing in at 390 grams, it is as heavy as some of the larger mallet type models you find but in a smaller head.  The extra weight does help in keeping the putter blade steady and does tend to prevent a lot of the unnecessary movements that lead to a poor putting stroke.  The sight lines are also helpful for proper alignment.

Overall, the AT12 Thomas Golf putter is a good choice for those who like a heavier putter that is versatile in allowing for a variety of different stroke types.

Thomas Golf releases the new AT-12 putter to its already prestigious line of customizable putters.  The AT-12 is a heavy-weighted blade putter with the features that have made Thomas Golf putters stand out from the rest.

The first thing you'll notice about the AT-12 is the weight of the putter head.  Coming in at around 400 grams, the AT-12 is considerably heavier than the average blade putter.  For some, the heavy putter style may not be desirable, but for those who like the feel of the heavier putter head, you'll be able to take advantage of some of the perks that come along with the extra weight.  Many golfers find that heavy putters promote better tempo and eliminate the yips that can come on some shorter putts.

The AT-12 is finished with a sleek flat black stealth coating that reduces glare and provides added durability to the putter head.  The putter also has a dual sightlines which is a great feature that Thomas Golf offers on many of their other putters.  Thomas Golf's focus has always been on alignment and the great thing about the dual sightlines, is that it lets you know when your eyes are placed directly over the golf ball.  If you can get your eyes directly over the golf ball, then you have a better view of the correct path to send the ball on.  If your eyes are not directly over that path, the putter will let you know immediately when the two top lines do not match up with the bottom single line.

While the AT-12 is constructed of stainless steel, it features an aluminum red striking plate for extra feel.  The face is CNC-milled insuring that the putter is evenly balanced and provides a optimal MOI.

The hosel free design of the AT-12 is a nice touch.  The putter is heel-shafted, making it an ideal choice for golfers who tend to putt with an arc-stroke (inside-to-square-to-inside).  For golfers with more of a straight back/square putting stroke, you may want to look into a center-shafted putter.

The Thomas Golf AT-12 putter is available for both right and left-handed golfers.  It is available in the traditional, mid-length (belly), and long putter style.  As with all Thomas Golf clubs, the AT-12 is fully customizable from shaft to grip, depending on your body type and personal preferences.
